Jerome Adams

Jerome Adams, born on September 22, 1974, in Orange, New Jersey, is an American anesthesiologist and a former Vice Admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps who served as the 20th Surgeon General of the United States. He held this position from September 2017 to January 2021, where he played a pivotal role in shaping public health policies and initiatives during a critical period.

Adams embarked on his journey in medicine after earning his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and his Bachelor of Arts in Biopsychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and later pursued a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Throughout his career, Adams demonstrated a commitment to public health, serving in various capacities. Before becoming Surgeon General, he worked as Indiana's State Health Commissioner, where he notably tackled issues like the opioid epidemic and infant mortality rates, earning recognition for his efforts to address these pressing health concerns.
